“As we move away from the pandemic, my hope is that the industry becomes more stable, fruitful, and fair for everyone. And that more women, especially BAME women, are offered and able to take leading management positions”

Without the music industry, I am not really sure who and where I would be — it’s my career, my financial stability, my life, and my saving grace. For the past 12 months, I have been concentrating on writing a book, Lady of the House, which includes over 100 interviews from women from every facet of the industry, ranging from promoters and artists to label owners and managers. Just some of the brilliant women featured include Candi Staton, Barbara Tucker, Sam Divine, DJ Maxinne, Lynn Cosgrave, Rowetta, Ellen Allien, Nicky Trax, Janet Bell, Julie McKnight, Kathy Brown, Anja Schneider, Black Girl/White Girl, Ultra Naté, Jocelyn Brown, Arielle Free, Rochelle Fleming, DJ Paulette, Gladys Pizarro, Abigail Adams, Anne Savage, DJ Rap, Kym Sims, Judy Griffith, Kym Mazelle, and many more.

Over the past year, I’ve also been setting up a new company, FR808DOM, as well as keeping my existing businesses Parallel Dimensions and Into Darkness afloat, all while continuing to manage MC Bassman. I’ve also made it a priority to reach out to industry peers and offer help with consultancy, strategy, and support. I have become more involved with the NTIA, offering input into their diversity and inclusion initiative — work that’s fed into my existing role as an active spokesperson for equality, diversity, and inclusion across the whole electronic music industry.

As we move away from the pandemic, my hope is that the industry becomes more stable, fruitful, and fair for everyone. And that more women, especially BAME women, are offered and able to take leading management positions. On a personal level, I want to ensure that FR808DOM becomes a sustainable business that continues to help people find their route into the industry, and of course, for Lady of the House to gain global recognition, paving the way for female and non-binary artists of the future.
